Two children killed, 11 injured in Rustenburg collision

Image
JOHANNESBURG - Two children have been killed and 11 others injured in a collision between a car and a taxi in Rustenburg on Tuesday morning. Emergency services say they arrived on the scene to find the taxi lying on its side and the car against a concrete fence a few metres away. Several children were found lying around the taxi and two children aged between six- and eight-years-old died at the scene.  Unfortunately nothing could be done for them, they were declared dead at the scene. Eleven other patients were found at the scene, including several children. Paramedics assessed the patients and found that they had sustained moderate injuries. The exact details surrounding this incident are not yet known. This is a terrible scene and I hope local authorities will investigate further on this matter. Any culprit involved must be prosecuted and justice must be served. Source : msn Link : https://www.msn.com/en-za/news/featured/two-children-killed-11-injured-in-rustenburg-col...

JOHANNESBURG - Parliament has responded with shock to revelations that the cold meat industry blocked compulsory specifications on processed meats for four years by complaining about high levies. Listeriosis outbreak that has led to the death of 183 people in South Africa and which has been traced to cold meats. The number of deaths continue to increase  as most of the citizens are not aware that the meat is contaminated. The National Consumer Commission (NCC) ordered a recall of affected goods on 4 March 2018.The affected products will be properly disposed off, so that it will  not cause any harm to people. National Regulator for Compulsory Specifications (NRCS) said no compulsory specifications exist for processed meat products and that the NRCS only regulates canned goods and not processed meat products. The industry is guilty of ignoring regulations that are deemed necessary by the Department of Health. This type of behaviour from the industry cannot be tole...

'Horror' as doctor cuts open wrong patient's head – reports

Image
Image by : http://www.news24.com iStock A Kenyan doctor in Nairobi  has reportedly been suspended after performing a brain surgery on the wrong patient. Two men had been brought into the hospital last weekend. One man needed a surgery to remove a blood clot in his brain. While the other only required nursing and medication to heal a trauma swelling in his head. The wrong labelling of tags, resulted in the wrong man being wheeled into theatre and his skull opened. The mistake was realised hours after the surgery. Doctors said the blame is to be pinned to the nurses who were responsible for patient labelling. In my view this is one of the worst cases of medical malpractice to become public in this day and age. I would like to urge all hospitals to ensure that all nurses are well trained and have adequate knowledge, as the lives of patients depend on them. Source : msn Link : https:...

Cyril Ramaphosa has been elected president of South Africa

Cyril Ramaphosa  Image: Moeletsi Mabe Cyril Ramaphosa is the new president of South Africa after he was elected unopposed in the National Assembly on the 15th of February 2018. The election comes a day after Jacob Zuma reluctantly resigned. Cyril Ramaphosa replaced Jacob Zuma as the ANC party president a month ago. Speaker of Parliament Baleka Mbete said she had received Zuma’s resignation letter, while the ANC hailed Zuma’s decision to step down.  Zuma bowed out on Wednesday the 14th of February after police raided the luxury home of the Gupta family, who have been at the centre of corruption allegations against Zuma and his circle for years. I believed that Mr Ramaphosa will bring change to the whole of South Africa as he aims to create job opportunities, grow the economy, support local businesses and provide high quality education to the citizens of South Africa. I"m confident that he will do a better job than the former president of South Africa, M...
